Human Resources

Manual

Overview

Background Information
‍
The OPIC HR Manual is a comprehensive human resources resource developed by the Ontario Pork Industry Council with support from Conestoga Meats and other industry partners to support Ontario pork producers in attracting, managing, and retaining employees while meeting their legal obligations. Building on the original Ontario Pork Sector HR Manual, it has been modernized into a practical, user-friendly resource that provides current employment legislation, industry-specific HR guidance, and customizable templates that producers can implement on their operations.

How to Use this Manual

The manual covers the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, performance management, workplace health and safety, compensation, discipline, employee relations, and termination, while also addressing the unique challenges of managing a workforce in the pork industry.

Future Plans

Designed as both a downloadable reference and an evolving digital platform, the OPIC HR Manual offers searchable content, operation-specific guidance, and regularly updated resources to ensure producers have access to accurate and practical information. By providing consistent, accessible HR tools and best practices, the manual helps producers reduce risk, improve workplace culture, strengthen employee retention, and build more successful and sustainable businesses.
