Hog Jog

OFF TO THE RACES!

The 2025 Hog Jog is in support of  House of Blessing FOOD BANK
House of Blessing  Food Bank Program assists families and households by providing essential food supplies once a month, with the quantity tailored to the household size. Along with food, they also supply personal care items like toiletries, feminine hygiene products, and incontinence supplies. For families with infants, they offer diapers and formula.
For those unable to visit in person, the FOOD BANK program provides a food delivery service.
Unhoused individuals are welcome to stop by once a day for water, snacks, and other easy-to-consume foods that don’t require refrigeration or cooking.
Additional programs meet the diverse needs of our community and support our neighbors in meaningful ways.House of Blessing serves Stratford, St. Pauls Station, Gads Hill, Shakespeare, Tavistock and surrounding rural areas of Perth East.

One of their key challenges is safely picking up and transporting perishable foods!Without a refrigerated vehicle  House of Blessing FOOD BANK is in desperate need of some assistance to enable the support of the communities they serve.

With the help of Hog Jog 2025 they plan to either retrofit one of their existing vehicles with a refrigeration unit, or purchase a refrigerated vehicle. This upgrade will significantly increase their capacity to safely transport perishable foods collected from various locations, both within and beyond our community (such as regular milk shipments received from the London Food Bank, and frozen meat from local grocery stores.

Let's get House of Blessing staying cool on the road!

Since 1973 L’Arche Stratford has been welcoming men and women with and without intellectual disabilities to live together in community. With four houses as well as supported-living, L’Arche Stratford is home to 26 core member individuals with disabilities. The acquisition of a Britannia Street property in 2017 has allowed L’Arche Stratford to develop a vision of a community inclusion hub. This facility will allow space to enhance the current day program, shifting from a program-centred model to an activity–based model, thereby serving a greater number of individuals living with intellectual disabilities in the Stratford area.

Our Honourary Hog Jog 2019 Chairs were Brian and Marloes Aitcheson. The Aitcheson family have farmed in Downie Township for five generations. They generously support funds, time and resources to numerous foundations. Their interest in giving back to youth has committed them to various sports and athletic associations in the community. The Aitcheson family supports the cause by being industry ambassadors and believes every individual has values and gifts and should be recognized as contributing people in our society.

2018 - The Local

HogJog 2018 provide needed funds to support The Local Community Food Centre.

$54,000 Raised !

The Local invites the community in and around Stratford to come together to grow, share, cook, access and advocate for good food for everyone. The Local helps members to benefit from learning how to cook healthy food from scratch on a tight budget; offers community meals and provides several cooking and gardening programs that are open to all, both on site and off site at their community garden. Proceeds from the 2018 run will be invested in capital improvements to their building, ensuring that it is accessible for all; renovating the main dining area; and updating the lighting systems throughout the building to create a smaller carbon footprint.
Our Honourary Hog Jog 2018 Chairs were the Schlegel and Yantzi families. Clare and Richard and their families farm in Perth County and have been involved in pork production for many years. They have partnered with Krug’s Meat Market in Tavistock to provide The Local with affordably priced pork through the “Pork For Life” initiative.

2017 - Optimism Place

Together
Thank you to all of the participants and volunteers for making the 2017 HogJog a success! We had perfect weather for a run.   Together we raised $52,000 for Optimism Place.

Hog Jog 2017 will provide needed funds to support Optimism Place Women's Shelter and Support Services.

Optimism Place is a Perth County shelter for women who are suffering abuse of any kind: physical, sexual, emotional or mental. Located in Stratford, it serves as a refuge for women and their children seeking to escape violence and abuse, where they can obtain professional help in a secure and confidential setting. Funds raised this year will help Optimism Place purchase a new van – to provide reliable transportation for local and rural women to get to the shelter as well as court meetings and other professional meetings. The new van will also provide safe transportation to and from school for the children living at the shelter.
Our Honourary Hog Jog 2017 Chair is Ingrid de Martines. Ingrid and her family have been involved in pork production since 1979, specializing in heritage and exotic breeds of swine.

2016 - Shelterlink Stratford/Perth

The 2016 Hog Jog will be partnering with the Stratford-Perth Shelterlink.

Funds raised through the Hog Jog will support Life Skills programming which ensure Perth County homeless youth and youth at-risk of becoming homeless to develop the thinking and skills necessary to live independently. For more information about Stratford/Perth Shelterlink visit www.shelterlink.org as well as our Facebook page.
Please help Stratford/Perth Shelterlink by collecting pledges. SPSL will be using the funding to purchase Life Skills programs and will be administering those programs to the youth that we serve.

Our Honourary Chair this year will be Erin Robinson.  Erin grew up a city girl in Sudbury, Ontario.  After finishing her Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Communications at Wilfrid Laurier University, she met a young Hog Farmer.  Erin and Jeff married in 2000 and 7 months later Erin left her job as a Senior Personal Banking Officer for Scotiabank, moved to the home farm and started working for her husband’s family business, Vista Villa Farms.  Erin embraced farm life and the agricultural industry and has never looked back, being extremely proud to call rural Ontario “home”.  Erin and Jeff have 3 daughters, Grace, Emma and Ava.  Erin has been an active volunteer in her community for many years serving on several boards and fundraising committees such as the Seaforth Public School Parents Association and The Drive for Dean.  Currently Erin is the President of the Exeter-Seaforth Ringette Association, the Chair of the Archives Committee and a Sunday School Teacher at St Peters Lutheran Church, as well as being a participant of the Hog Jog for many years in both the 10km and 3.5km events with her children.

In 2012 Erin’s daughter, Emma, heard about Shelterlink at their church and decided that instead of presents for her birthday party she would request guests to bring donations, such as laundry baskets and school supplies, for the residents of Shelterlink; things many of us take for granted.  Emma’s guests enthusiastically donated and Emma was pleased to be able to help in some small way.  The Robinson family is proud to support Shelterlink and the important role they play for youth in our community.

Tuesday June 19, 2012
Thank you for making the 2012 HogJog a huge success!
In spite of the intense heat and humidity that gripped Southern Ontario this week, turnout for the 7th annual Hog Jog Pork was outstanding.

The Hog Jog, held  June 19 at the Ontario Pork Congress in Stratford was a huge success raising $40,000 for ONE CARE – Meals on wheels program. In addition to working on the farm, Ruth was a giving, community minded individual who volunteered endless hours of her time. One of her many causes was the Meals on Wheels program, delivering warm meals along with her warm smile and enthusiasm for life. Ruth passed away this past spring after a short illness.
